TENNIS ACADEMY BRESKVAR was established in 1992 under the leadership of Peter Breskvar and internationally renowned coach Boris Breskvar, who, amongst others, coached Boris Becker, Steffi Graf, Anke Huber and Andriy Medvedev, while he was also heading Slovenian national team for the Davis Cup.
The purpose of the Academy is to we train active competitive players, while we also run a tennis school and tennis kindergarten for the youngest. Tennis Academy Breskvar regularly hosts various tennis tournaments, while in 1999, a Davis Cup match between the Slovenian and Senegalese national teams took place on our courts.
Amongst those who regularly prepare for competitions at our Academy are Blaž Kavčič and the most promising Slovenian female player Kaja Juvan. In addition, we occasionally also host our best male player Aljaž Bedene.
Amongst our younger players, it is worth mentioning Svit Suljič, who won the unofficial world championship for children up to 10 years of age.
Initially, we were renting tennis courts at the ŠRC Gradiant, but we eventually decided proceed with a construction of our own tennis center, which is today located at the Tesovnikova ul. 74c in Ljubljana. Three clay courts and one hardcourt were open during the summer and covered with air domes during the winter.
In 2005, we decided to build a new sports hall, which boasts with six badminton and three tennis courts, covered with a very popular carpet surface with rubber granulate. In addition to the sports hall, we have available during the summer also three clay courts, two beach volleyball courts and one hardcourt which is covered with an air dome during the winter. In addition, our competitive players can use an internal gym.
In addition to the bar, our members have access to a special Members’ area with the warmth and the cosiness of a fireplace, where they can relax, enjoy and socialize. Throughout the year, our club organises numerous tennis tournaments and social gatherings where participants can experience the true club atmosphere.
In 2012, Tennis Academy Breskvar became member of the network of elite Prince academies (International PPI Academy).
In 2016, we became a Regional Olympic Center.
